Marimba FAQs
Q & A about Marimbas and custom woodworking
How do I order a Marimba?
Send me a message via the contact form with a short description of what you’re interested in and I’ll get back to you shortly.
Do you work with schools?
Yes. I understand that schools and other institutions often have to budget, fund raise etc. and I’m happy to work with teachers and administrators on their timelines preparing bids, processing POs etc.
Do you ship instruments?
Yes. I’ve shipped instruments all over the USA. For orders in the NW (Oregon/Washington) I can either ship or deliver instruments.
Do you retune or replace bars?
Yes. Over time marimba bars can drift out of tune. Typically they will rise in pitch in which case they are easily re-tuned. If they go flat then they will often need to be replaced.
Do you do other types of repairs?
Yes. I run a well equipped wood shop and am often able to repair frames, legs, resonators etc.
Do you carry an inventory?
No, generally I only build marimbas to order. The turn around time for individual instruments is typically 6-8 weeks. Larger orders such as sets take longer of course. I normally keep a supply of mallets on hand.
Do you build custom instruments or do other types of woodwork?
Yes to both. I have built extended range marimbas, in-line chromatic marimbas, Zimbabwean style marimbas, and various percussion instruments large and small. Additionally I’ve built custom furniture, some furniture repair and collaborated with artists and others on interesting projects over the years. I’m always up for an interesting challenge!
